Of Voldemort and Quirrell, Unicorns and Horcruxes. 1. Voldemort had created at least one Horcrux (the Diary), possibly more (though perhaps going through the "only one" phase prompted the making of more, despite him having asked Sluggie about multiples in school.). We saw him schmoozing Hepzibah Smith, which was before his alliance with Quirrell, though, so there is a high possibility that he already had created multiples. 2. Quirrell says out loud that "Master" isn't strong enough, when Harry confronts him/them near the Mirror of Erised. 3. Quirrrell dies when Voldemort flees, or more probably because Voldemort left him. So - ~ Was the killing of the Unicorns for Quirrell more than Voldemort? ~ Did the attached curse from slaying something so pure stay with Quirrell if that was the case? He was the one who did the killing, but which one benefited from it, or more from it? Was he functioning with his own free will, or was Voldemort the one in charge - and what does that do for the responsibility of the deed ? Magic is "intent", how does that fit in here? ~ If Voldemort indeed had more than one Horcrux by Harry's first year, why was he still so weak/dependent on other life-forms? Do Horcruxes specialize, only "save" the part magically affiliated? Is no physical part ever protected, is it only the life-force? |

Good questions Figgy I would need more time to think on this, to come up with some interesting theories on this subject. But my first rambling thoughts (which can change after I really think about it) is this: - Lord V could not die because of the many horcruxes (pieces of his soul) that he encased in vessels) - when the killing curse rebounded, his body died but a piece of his soul survived (he cannot die, yet) - his soul could grow stronger while latching onto critters (even a soul needs feeding to survive). What keeps a soul stronger, for longer, I do not know but according to how the story goes, it sounds like thoughts and flesh and blood. The small critters that hosted Lord V eventually died; he likely sucked the life's blood and soul right out of them) - how his soul got to Albania, we have no idea ... it is a long ways from Godric's Hollow - Lord V's soul grew strong enough to latch onto a wizard; he was nothing more than a parasite feeding off it's host (Quirrell). Quirrell was brilliant but week; an excellent host for V to feed from. V got control over Q's mind - a talent he excelled at when alive) - Quirrell was forced to drink the unicorn blood; the magical blood did two things. 1) curse Quirrell; 2) made Lord V's soul stronger - Quirrell's body would take the curse and Lord V would get the benefits of the magical unicorn blood. - Lord V needed his soul to become stronger so that it could once again become a human form. (wisps of smoke to flesh and bone) I will give this more thought though! perhaps the soul can feed on stem cells (of anything; animal or human) and thus, eventually, create it's own body again. |
