Light dusting of snow overnight.
Winds are to pick up tomorrow.

No snow through yesterday but got a little this morning. Snow showers Tuesday, maybe 6+ Wednesday. Depends on which way the storm goes. Good ol' wait and see game now. Fingers crossed if it's bad, we get a snow day.

Started out sunny, but now is overcast. Still warmer than normal, and a bit breezy.

* peers out cautiously * Sunny, no 50 mph wind, holy cow!

The wind grabbed my storm-door two days ago and tore the mount. 'Didn't pull it out of the wood/door frame, tore the metal of the mount. ... Cats have been grumpy for several days now, 'don't think they like the low pressure.

Things are finally beginning to look up. :occasion-snowman:

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CST
SATURDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Heavy snow and mixed precipitation expected. Total snow
and sleet accumulations of 3 to 7 inches and ice accumulations
up to three tenths of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
The heaviest snow amounts will be north of Interstate 80.

* WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to midnight CST Saturday night.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Blowing snow could
significantly reduce visibility.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Tree and power line damage may occur as
strong north winds combine with ice accumulations.

Can ice storms make a train jump a track or slide a longer distance when trying to stop?

Ice is generally not a problem (except when pulling or spotting cars).
Snow, on the other hand, can present some interesting situations. :scared-eek:

There are some nifty trains-in-snow pics from a hundred years ago here. Some of 'em are amazing. There are stories about trains being stuck in avalanche sheds for long times, too.
