I started a dog-sit down in the Denver 'burbs on Wednesday. I had to shovel 10-12" heavy wet Spring snow to get my kitchen door open and load my car. Denver, 3,000 feet lower in altitude, has flowers and people mowing grass. I felt like a crazy person getting out of my car with a winter coat and Sorrels on when I got there at 4 in the afternoon...

The western suburbs are fifty miles from my house. This critter-sit is seventy-five. It was mid-80sF/29C today. Actual leaves on the deciduous trees... flowers... light breezes wafting... It rained Sunday afternoon and smelled like I remember May smelling Back East. * sigh *

We finally got temps in the upper 70s and low 80s during the week and yup, rain this weekend and most of next week. Temps are going to be in the 50s and more rain predicted for next weekend. Leaves on the trees here blossomed all of a sudden - buds to small leaves to medium sized leaves in a week! Finally saw a few bumblebees! Not too many mosquitos yet but that'll come soon enough. Just wish I could send you the rain, Howler. Figgy - hope you don't get any more snow. Enough of that crap!

Over the last couple weeks we've gotten more snow, its just not winter snow at my house (but I'm not there until the end of this week). Its heavy and wet (which is good for all the plants, for sure), and usually melts off allowing for a couple nice days, then another dump. We had frost warnings down between Denver and Colorado Springs last night, but its supposed to be almost nice until the weekend (Memorial Day - first of the summer holidays) when it will rain for 5 days in a row. It doesn't pour down all day, just an afternoon or morning of rain... just enough to screw up all the ones who want to go camping and play in the mountains.

Its a plot...

we finally got a bit of rain last week. YAY!! Overjoyed!
but not enough ... want more (more, more more) LOL
it sure helps having wet ground when pulling weeds. the clay in our soil makes weeding impossible when the ground is dry/hard. Ugh!

good grief ... not "S..w" Figgy.
But I guess moisture is moisture. hopefully it didn't damage any of the spring plants.

Our lilacs are still in the bud stage, but will open pretty soon because you can see purple distinctly. Last night (Sunday into Monday) it was 29F/-1.6C, right now (wee hours of Tuesday) its 31F/-0.5C.

The thrill is gone. I want it to warm up better...

the lilacs are beginning to bloom here as well
but holy crackers ... we cannot get away from the winds
they have been relentless; up to 90km/hr for DAYS/weeks
sure makes driving fun ... semi trucks are having difficultly (swaying across both lanes) trying to stay on the road
it is impossible to go outside without something blowing into your face; a lot of my taller perennial flowers (bachelor buttons for instance) are all getting blown over; even some of the poppies are flattened.

and we still could use some rain. I know a few towns within the area got some moisture; but not my town

temps have been up and down here Figgy ... one day cool; the next day scorching hot (rince, repeat) ... go figure!

Made it through the hot, humid, hazy days, temps in the 90s then got a lot of nice days (temps in the 70s to low 80s with low dew points). Rain this morning, which is badly needed as my lawn will tell you, then thunderstorms later today. Back to nice weather tomorrow through most of the week. ahhhhhh, relief!

Because of altitude we haven't been as stinky hot as everywhere else, but, had a couple dog-sits down in the Metro area that were sooo hot...
