No, it crossed my path a couple of hundred yards away. The associated storm was so strong I never saw it.
I got totally soaked for nothing.

Were you storm chasing?

Not chasing. I'm a trained(?) spotter. Though I really blew that one.
I was at my assigned location.

do you have specific locations with safe huts/holes/etc or are the assigned locations random and unprotected? when did this happen?

Couple of years ago. They place you where they need you. Usually at a well known intersection, so your location is easily relayed to the Weather Service.
I will say, the ceiling was so low it seemed like the clouds were only fifty feet from the ground. And apparently, one was closer then that.

No, I'm out there with a hand-held measuring device. They like wind reports and such as well.

So ... safe to presume you do not have a sunroof in the truck, something with the same setup-ish as incubators and such, where you could just hold the devise into the elements and still stay toasty dry. (maybe I should invent something like that for you ;-))
