The way I look at it:
One can admire Gryffindors and Ravenclaws.
One respects a Hufflepuff.

that is an interesting point of view paint.
Hufflepuffs are the determined and dedicated workers of the world ... nothing could/would really get accomplished without them.

(Let's not forget, she killed Harry's "champion", who was one of the Marauders no less! And she did it in a very anti-hero way, too - with draperies!)

They get such short shrift that we don't know what the Hufflepuff common room is like, or even how to get in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since everyone has some of each House in them (back to Howler's thoughts on wind, water, fire, etc.) and the Hat takes a lot of things into consideration, don't you wonder if Ced had a moment similar to Harry's Sorting and chose Hufflepuff over next probability (Gryffindor seems to be the next strongest traits he shows, though Ravenclaw is strong, too). I'm thinking that he took his parents' needs (since he's an only child) into consideration and pushed for Hufflepuff House.
Its interesting that for Slytherin and Hufflepuff a lot of readers only see their "lesser" and negative characteristics, while for Gryffindor and Ravenclaw they only see the other end of the spectrum. How often is the brashness and lack of forethought of the Gryffs or the spacey impracticality of Raveclaw ever brought up? (Well, aside from Luna being the poster child for spacey-ness. That somehow is never treated as a Ravenclaw trait in her case, but her own self.)
Very true Figgy. Many even fail to recognize the fact that not all Slytherins will end up in Azkaban.
only those slytherin's that do not get caught for their underhanded ways Paint.
And ravenclaws are smart, but sometimes smarts lack common sense or human compassion. (Take Sheldon Cooper for instance - Love the Big Bang Theory show!)
Do Hufflepuffs even have a negative trait? They have such well rounded personality traits.
