'Harry Potter' spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts' will be a trilogy

Fantastic Beasts come in threes.

The Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released by Warner Bros. as a trilogy of “megamovies,” The New York Times reports in its profile on the studio’s CEO, Kevin Tsujihara. Based on the Hogwarts textbook written by Potter author J.K. Rowling, the new franchise is an extension of her extraordinarily realized wizarding world. The films will follow magizoologist Newt Scamander and start in New York approximately seven decades before Harry Potter’s own adventures.

According to Rowling herself, Tsujihara is responsible for convincing the author to dive back into the Potterverse.

“When I say he made Fantastic Beasts happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth,” she says. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone call, and then I got out the rough draft that I’d thought was going to be an interesting bit of memorabilia for my kids and started rewriting!”

knowing WB, it is likely both Paint. knowing full well that JKR could not leave potterverse alone, I fully expect that her longwinded imagination (in this case a good thing) will completely fill 3 movies. She may have had to stretch the adventure a bit, but likely ok. I think it far better to have 3 movies from one screenplay than 1 condensed movie from HUGE books (eg POA, GOF, OOTP, HBP, DH, cough cough)
