Very interesting theory.
My first question is how could it come from the archway? Death grabbed the rock from the riverbank.
Maybe death lived under the bridge like a troll within his archway and is the only person who can travel between both worlds ... however, the bridge was newly created by the Peverells; so that doesn't make sense.

unless the archway was completely submerged below the waters edge at the riverbank.

hmmmm ... worth thinking about!

Could there be some relationship/connection with the stones the Archway is made from? Maybe there's something like a magic ore vein that runs through all, so that when the little piece from the river was energized by Death, the stones of the archway were also. If so, what else could carry that energy/curse/Spell? What about the stones of the castle?

oh ... the stones of the castle!!! Now that is an interesting twist!
