Thanks to Harry Potter Folklore.

Quote:

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today, we’re discussing Harry Potter plot holes. Plot holes that effect your favourite characters- Hermione, Snape, Voldemort, Hagrid and more. Before we get things started let me just say this- the established magical world of Harry Potter is fantastic- and it was fantastically written. Over the decades, it has given countless people an escape- a portal in to a world much more magical than our own. JK Rowling, before writing the books, spent years planning out what she was going to write- and when pen finally went to paper- she did an excellent job at piecing together the story and its characters. However, with that said, the story is not ‘perfect’ and there are certainly some glaring issues that have always stuck out to me- plotholes that weren’t ever addressed- or only sort-of addressed in a tweet after-the-fact. In this video, I’m going to be ranking 10 plotholes that stuck out to me- ranging from more reasonable to...questionable. This list DEFINITELY won’t include every plothole in the story- so don’t attack me in the comments if I’ve missed one. Instead, just comment a plothole that stuck out to you! Without further ado, let’s get started.

Interesting theories
Q: How is it possible to be your own secret keeper?
Opinion: I agree ... why did Fred and George never say anything about "Peter"
Opinion: Portraits ... not quite in agreement with his point of view. The portraits in the Head Masters office are different than other witch/wizards portraits. They are magically enhanced; their main purpose is to advise and council the current head master of Hogwarts; therefore they are extra special. We have often seen this with Phineas Nigellus Black.

thanks for the link Figgy!

These two very enjoyably got me toying with ideas again.

I had a couple problems with the some of the theories and a couple had me thinking about plot mechanations.

Isn't being your own secret keeper kind of just what normal everyday life is? That is an odd concept for sure. I think he meant it be that Lily was James' Secret Keeper, and James was Lily', but he just didn't explain that very clearly.

Because of how a Pensieve works, I wonder if the memories from a Head Master are procured and then embedded in their portraits so that the vast accumulation of info could be shared with the other Head Masters.

I also agree with the idea that trouble in Britain affects the whole Wizarding World, so why weren't the other Magical Governments/countries/places more involved in defeating Voldemort?
Was Dumbledore that much more powerful than most other wizards/witches that they thought he could do it all himself?

More to ponder...

Interesting concept about pensieve and portraits Figgy. I knew they are bound to "advise" the current headmaster, it would almost make sense that they have retained all of their memories so they could do this properly. Or does the pensieve in the headmaster's office contain "ALL" the memories from "ALL" the headmasters?

Is it possible that Voldemort did not threaten any other countries. The whole "one" country at a time thing/theory? Just like Germany and the Nazis ... little by little will eventually take the world. Only when it actually involves a lot of other countries does the world start to react.

I agree ... so much to ponder!
