okay ... some thoughts
1. as dangerous as the tasks/events within Hogwarts may be, they are on the school grounds and therefore under the protection of the school authorities. Seldom does (or did) the students require permission to participate. Hogsmeade, on the other hand, is not located within school boundaries, therefore would require permission slips. This part of the book makes perfect sense to me. This is the old school way, not NEW school-need.permission.to.blow.your.nose-way. Maybe all the parents sent permission slips to Hogwarts prior to the Triwizard tournament. Just because it doesn't say it in the books, does not mean it did not happen. Lots of parents knew about the event-but it was kept secret from the students.

2. Trelawney isn't the most skilled witch; maybe she wasn't good with the 'reparo' charm. Just like Tonks could never get the hang of the 'packing/cleaning' charms.

3. Staircases change (42 of them forever changing to be exact) ... sometimes it is always difficult to get where you are going. No matter how hard you try, the castle can make it very difficult to navigate. There are also hidden shortcuts behind tapestries ... I would imagine these change up as well.

4. Draco's father is a school governor (and an old wealthy family) ... need I say more. Always, always, even in real life ... people of high ranking authority always get preferential treatment. Why does this surprise this girl?

5. I almost agree with the Lupin / Peter secret keeper pov

going to have to watch the remainder at home (on my break at work right now). But so far, not agreeing at all with this person.

I need to rewatch, but off the top of my head...

1. All the parents knew way ahead of the kids (except perhaps Draco). Remember how Molly was all-but-popping about the secret that none of the kids were allowed to know? It was credited to the MoM saying something, but that had to be when permission slips came into the picture.

3. Sometimes it even seems like they pick on some people, or cut others slack. And there wasn't much moving around during the battle to defend the castle. Its a bit like the Castle is sentient and does things intentionally.
