Well, sort of. Next April, the Czocha Castle in Poland will be hosting the second annual live-action role play (LARP), dubbed "The Czocha Cllege of Witchcraft and Wizardry." Inspired by the Harry Potter books, participants attending the "college" will play the roles of students and teachers at the fictional wizard school. On the college's website, the event is described as a "collaborative experience" created by the players and organizers together, with "everyone pitching in and helping make the magic come alive." "It's essentially the same as when kids use curtains as robes and sticks as wands and run around pretending to be witches and wizards," the website said. The first LARP at the college was held in November, with about 190 people representing 11 different countries participating, the website says. A special promotional video of the first LARP was posted on YouTube Wednesday to promote next year's event, which will be held from April 9-12, 2015. In it, participants are seen taking on their roles by attending magic classes, playing “quidditch” and mixing potions. Photos from the November gathering show hordes of people dressed in their appropriate costumes, role-playing throughout the castle's grounds. Registration for the 2015 LARP opens on Dec. 11. Tickets to the event cost just under $400 CDN. |
