I think she already said some of the things and I´ve read so many theories about how Snape acted on guilt or love that is a good thing to read what the author thinks about the character she created.

LONDON — It's a question some Harry Potter fans have pondered over ever since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows apparated its way onto our book shelves in 2007: Why, exactly, did Harry decide to name his second son after a man he spent most of his childhood despising?


In the final book's epilogue, when Harry is saying goodbye to Albus Severus Potter at Platform 9 3/4, he tells his son he was named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. "One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew," he says.

It seems not everyone was happy with that explanation, though.
The discussion started on Friday morning, when Rowling responded to this question from a fan.

@jk_rowling Kind of strange you'd say 'in forgiveness', I mean Snape held no malice against Harry (which Harry came to knew, eventually).

Interesting tweets.

My theory/explantaion ... but just mine, it was all about revenge upon Lily's killer. He choose to be the person that Dumbledore asked him to be so that Lily's death could be revenged. He was a nasty evil git - he did not do it for Harry or for hatred of James or because he saw the errors of his ways and became a nice person - he did it because he was the only person who could assist Harry or create the scenario with Dumbledore's help/foresight, so that Lord V could be destroyed. Snape did not change his "Slytherin spots" so to speak, but he did realize that the only person that Lord V really cared about was Lord V - and Lord V killed the only person Snape loved. Snape, like Lord V, was not a kind and thoughtful person; but he did at least have a tiny smidgeon of his heart that was good (good enough to love; good enough to follow through with Dumbledore's plan).

anyway ... that's how I see it

How come she didn't let us answer the question? Howler's theory is so much more real/better than hers. Her's makes Harry disconnected from Snape and DD, objectifying them with pity, which is a dumb reason to name your kid after them. How many people named their kids "Hitler" because there'd be no one to sympathize with the loss. What a stupid reason!

I completely agree!!! :bow-yellow: Snape's death only served to improve society.

Evil is perfectly capable of performing heroic acts. But they , in no way diminish evil.
