Post subject:  HP play to be published in July

In the US and Canada, Potter publisher Scholastic will publish Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II, and in the UK, Little Brown will publish the same title. The book will be released on Harry’s (and Jo’s!) birthday: July 31, 2016. Of course, this is only a day after the play officially opens (although it does run in previews for a few weeks prior), which means that readers around the world will get the chance to read the story almost in real time, greatly reducing the risk of running across spoilers on the Internet.

In the US, the book will cost $29.99, and in Canada, it will be priced at $39.99. The British hardcover will be £20. A digital edition will be released via Pottermore simultaneously.

Scholastic, Little Brown UK to Publish “Cursed Child” Script This Summer!
Posted by: Jessica February 10, 2016 in Cursed Child, J.K. Rowling, News, Scholastic

Only a couple of weeks ago, we were cautiously optimistic that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would be published as a book sooner than we had originally hoped, meaning that those fans unable to make the trip to London to see the show wouldn’t be missing out on reading the next chapter of Harry’s (and Albus’s) story. Now, we have confirmation – the full script of Cursed Child WILL be published this summer!

Information released by the publishers today states that this edition will contain the script of the play as it stands during the production’s preview period – a Special Rehearsal Edition. As further rehearsal and transition to performing in front of live audiences may produce changes to the script, this edition will only be available for a limited time – a Definitive Collector’s Edition with the final version of the script will be released at a later date.
Here is the current concept art for the cover of the book:

The CEO of Little Brown Book Group UK, David Shelley, said of the announcement:

We are so thrilled to be publishing the script of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. J.K. Rowling and her team have received a huge number of appeals from fans who can’t be in London to see the play and who would like to read the play in book format – […] so we are absolutely delighted to be able to make it available for them.

Scholastic’s promotion for the book’s release has already got us excited (and planning which robes we’re going to wear to the midnight release, of course):

Why have I become skeptical about her recent endeavorers?

A book of the script ... hmmm. I think the release date is cool.
I am getting rather cynical in my old age, or just maybe tired of being 'taken' by corporate greed. I apologize for my bluntness, truly I do. I love the HP book series dearly - and hold them in high esteem (always). But not one of her books were that expensive; and they were hundreds of pages long ... hundreds. The script can't possibly be the size of SS or COS can it? Yet look at that hefty price tag!

Does anyone know if it is any good?
I would love to know what her vision was for Harry & Ginny's child.

Pottermore had even more information on the page that announces this book.
https://www.pottermore.com/news/ww-publ ... nouncement

(The first few paragraphs talk about the play/script ... but after that, they let us know about this):
For J.K. Rowling’s devoted readers 2017 is also a momentous year, as it marks the twentieth anniversary of the UK publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.

Next year will see the publication of four special editions of the first book in the UK, one for each of the four Hogwarts houses. There will also be a brand new edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 2017, with new content by J.K. Rowling, as well as new formats and editions of the Hogwarts Library books – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.

Pottermore doesn’t play favourites, but we’re especially looking forward to nabbing a copy of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets illustrated by Jim Kay. That’s coming a little sooner, in October 2016, and we’ll be prodding Jim for a look at his latest work soon because we’re nosy like that.

No idea if it will be good, I don´t understand yet what the story is about but I like that she keeps writing about the Potter world. She doesn´t need the money so I think she does it because she wants to keep doing it.
It´s not a book, it´s just the play being published. I agree that the cost is expensive, don´t remember how much I paid for the other Potter books but her new ones are over 20 dollars so it´s probably the market or the publisher setting the price.

* cough * The cost might be that the other things she's put out since 2007 didn't do well. It might also be that buying a script ALWAYS is more expensive than a mass market novel. What I don't understand is a play scripted as "Parts 1 & 2".

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Is Going to Be the 8th Harry Potter Book

Are you sitting down? It doesn't matter, because you need this news anyway. You know how there's a play called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child coming to the stage in London this year? Maybe you thought, "I love Harry Potter, but I can't afford to go all the way to London." Well, now you don't have to! The script for the play is becoming a book. That's right — an eighth Harry Potter book. "As the U.S. print publisher, Scholastic introduced Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World to American readers nearly 20 years ago and experienced firsthand the anticipation and excitement of the publication of each of the books over the years," said the president of Scholastic Trade, Ellie Berger, in a statement. "We are thrilled to publish Harry Potter and the Cursed Child this Summer." This Summer! Here's the synopsis:

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places.

While the play is by Jack Thorne, the story was written in collaboration with J.K. Rowling and John Tiffany. Basically, this is going to be magical.

Exciting publishing programme from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Script Book
WEDNESDAY 10TH FEB 2016

Big things are coming this year from the Wizarding World, including the Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book of new stage play ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II'.
A host of new print and digital publishing has been announced from J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, including a Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book of new stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II.

Print and digital editions will publish simultaneously after the play’s world premiere this summer, and will comprise of the version of the play script at the time of the play’s preview performances.

Theatre previews allow the creative team the chance to rehearse and explore scenes further before a production’s official opening night. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opens for previews several weeks before its official first performance on Saturday 30 July and the Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book will later be replaced by a Definitive Collector’s Edition.

Pottermore will bring you further updates on the Definitive Collector’s Edition as we learn more.

Readers and moviegoers last saw Harry waving off his children at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, in the epilogue to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picks up after that moment and is staged in two parts, due to the ‘epic nature of the story’.

The play opens in London’s West End this summer, based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. It is officially the eighth story in Harry Potter canon and a new play by Jack Thorne.

Interest in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child from Wizarding World fandom has been massive, and now Potter fans across the globe will be able to join Harry, Ron and Hermione on the next stage of their journey.

Jamie Parker, who originated the role of Scripps in The History Boys, has been cast as Harry. He is joined by Olivier Award-winning actress Noma Dumezweni as Hermione and theatre, film and TV actor Paul Thornley as Ron.

If I remember correctly Figgy, the play was to be presented on two separate nights. (rather than both parts (acts) in one night). And you had to buy separate tickets for each night. I am pretty sure that is why the playbook being sold is labelled Part 1 & 2.

I can understand ticket prices being high for theatre due to the costs involved with all the actors, etc. but a play at that price ... ouch!

Yes, it´s separated in two. You can go different days to watch them. I read that statement from the publishers when I translated the news but... what is the story about? is there a villain? his Albus a dark wizard? not clear enough for me. (and yes, that´s why we have to buy the script lol I know)

This is all (I believe) that was written as to what the play is about:
"It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn't much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband, and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes darkness comes from unexpected places."
