Alberta has had the holiday for years. It has taken a long time for the remaining provinces to catch up - some of them still don't acknowledge it - Manitoba calls it Louis Riel Day. Not all the provinces celebrate it on the same day either. And since it is only a Provincial holiday, many of the federally operated facilities do not recognize it.

Me - I'm just thrilled to have an extra day off.

President's Day came about when Federal Government decided that every Holiday that could be moved to Monday, would.
Notice how these are the same people that have weekends off already...

Prior to this, President's Day never existed.
There was Washington's Birthday for most of the Country, and Lincoln's Birthday for us in Illinois.
And yes, I will be working second shift all three days... at no additional pay.

Hope you use your time wisely, young Howler! It will be gone before you know it...

I grew up in Ohio, PH, and we had Lincoln's Birthday (Feb 12th) and Washington's Birthday (Feb 22nd) as holidays. Then the Government decided that money was more important than the concept of commemorating for the importance of the occasion. Now kids have no idea what Memorial Day or Veterans Day means. Even when I worked jobs that gave official holidays off (I was a city letter carrier in another life) it irked me and was just not right to disrespect things by moving them to Mondays only to make three-day weekends. So now Presidents who don't deserve it get in on "Presidents Day" along with the few truly great ones who should be held up as examples of the best and brightest. * And we wonder why the younger generations are skeptical of so much and show little interest in history. *

Prior to moving up into the mountains with a stash of weapons and explosives?

Very true that many (including those who should know better) can't tell the difference between Memorial Day, and Armistice Day.

The only good thing to come out of spending thirteen and one half hours at work yesterday, in a blinding snow storm, was...

I got to see a huge SNOWY OWL for the first time! :happy-jumpeveryone: :angelic-whiteflying:
