Moo's post got me to thinking about this pandemic and how it will affect us here at HPFWNL

I know that a lot of people are mandated to work from home, are getting laid off, are getting time off ... so many things happening around us. Moo is working from home until Apr 3. My work told us to take one week off and stay at home - I return on Mar 30th. In all honesty, I don't think one week will do much to help contain this virus, but I have every intention of staying home as requested. My sister (who lives with me) works at a fuel station which will not close because it is considered an essential service. I pray every day that she does not come in contact with any individual who has the virus. She is running herself ragged trying to disinfect after each and every person. She does her part.

I am wondering what we can do to ensure all of us are okay.
I worry about all of us, and our safety. I would be heartbroken if something happened to any of us.

We can't always get to the site daily. So if one of us actually gets sick, how are we going to let everyone know?

Our Federal-level government is a joke, but we have really good things going on in the State itself.

The Governor is good at explaining the "why" connected to his ideas, it makes us feel like we are all part of it instead of that something's being imposed on us. He hasn't made staying home mandatory yet, but has strongly impressed on us that we need to voluntarily do what's good for everyone. Its easy to understand the concept of "flattening the curve" when he explains it. He's trying to get things done that will help people who can't afford being out of work, jump-starting Workmens Comp, subsidizing what might truly help. He's also made it legal that if a restaurant normally serves booze with meals, since they are only allowed to do Take Out now (no congregating indoors with strangers), that they can do take out with booze so long as the customer order food first/too, like they would have in the diningroom. (Because tourism is such a big part of our economy, and sports are a major thing, too, there are all sorts of laws against walking off premises with open alcohol. You're not allowed to carry your beer glass out a door, can't buy mixed drinks and leave with them, that sort of thing. But as of two days ago, its ok while we're all segregated by Corona.)

Yesterday he again emphasized working from home if possible, but also mandated that any business that has to have people present should get as much space between individuals (minimum of 6 feet) as possible, and suggested a day shift and a night shift so that only half the employees would be present at any one time, allowing for more open space in the building. All of that sounds nice, but the virus remains viable on hard shiny surfaces, like steel and plastic, for 72 hours. Interestingly, it only "lives" on copper for 4 hours, and it will die off of paper in 24.

Anyway, I have no good suggestions for keeping track of all of us. Let's check in as often as we can.
Perhaps, if it isn't intrusive, we could share a phone or some other way to get in touch if someone hasn't checked in for a pre-designated time. That way if the internet goes away for some reason (it says right in the Rule Book that the computer will break or the Router will go futz at the most impossible time), one of us could touch base with that person and let the rest of us know they're ok.

Personally, I have been having a Stay-cation. It hasn't been a hardship to be at home at all, getting caught up on projects that I've had to put off too long. Once I use up my reserve of funds, then it will time to freak out, but right now I'm doing Spring cleaning and enjoying not having a time pressure to get stuff done by. We don't have home mail delivery so I've only gone out to the P.O. once a week, and shopped for groceries one day every ten days or two weeks. I have a couple friends who are in their 80s that I'm concerned about, but as long as they're ok, its kinda nice being home.

Each province has mandated different rules; there are also federal rules in place ... if only people would comply, this virus could curve out low and fast. Unfortunately people are not complying ... the official word is "corvidiot"

Restaurants are take-out, delivery or drive through only.
Social distancing has been mandated from 1-2 meters (3-6 ft ish)
School closures; however by some time next week there will be a distance learning program set up in our area or province so that teachers go back to work (no students in classrooms)
All non-essential businesses are now closed. Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, ... only the essentials are open
People returning from another country are asked to self isolate for 2 weeks

If only people would do as they are supposed to:
-People coming home from vacation and filling their vehicles with fuel and stopping for groceries (not supposed to do this - go straight home; ask a neighbor, family, to buy your food and deliver it to your door or order online
-A man in Quebec City who had been tested positive with the corvid-19 virus was arrested because he is out and about in the city when he was mandated home
-Tons of people in Vancouver Island and Vancouver along the beaches (packed in like sardines, thinking it is just a holiday - no distancing or consideration of others)
-some young adults are hosting covid-19 parties so that they can get infected and spread it around more
-people (young and old) leaving their homes for non essentials (gee - I think I will go to the gas station and buy a car wash)
-and the list goes on and on ... nothing will work if people do not take this seriously.

Since our benighted leader isn't on top of anything and we in the USA can't get tested, this may be an important thing to know ~

Quote:

Anosmia, the loss of sense of smell, and ageusia, an accompanying diminished sense of taste, have emerged as peculiar telltale signs of Covid-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and possible markers of infection

“We really want to raise awareness that this is a sign of infection and that anyone who develops loss of sense of smell should self-isolate,” Prof. Claire Hopkins, president of the British Rhinological Society, wrote in an email. “It could contribute to slowing transmission and save lives.”

If you've lost your sense of smell or taste, you could be a 'hidden carrier' of the coronavirus

I'm not sure where this should be, but ~

It seems someone hasn't been very careful with the International Statute of Secrecy! At least they used a shrinking Solution on them before allowing them to be seen by Muggles. But anyhow,

Quote:
A scientist in Australia has identified seven new peacock spider species including one which bears an uncanny resemblance to Van Gogh's iconic painting Starry Night. The discoveries were reportedly documented by Joseph Schubert, a 22-year-old researcher who has become something of a specialist when it comes to the colorful and diminutive arachnids. While the young man is credited with scientifically establish the existence of these newfound species, he was quick to note that it was really a collaborative effort.

"A lot of the species are actually discovered by citizen scientists who'd documented the locality data and taken photos of the spiders and sent images to me," Shubert explained in a press release. As such, he said, several of the seven creatures have been named after the people who originally found them. However, one of the species was given a special name due to its remarkable appearance.

According to Shubert, he drove seven hours across Australia to document what he identified as his favorite of the new species, the Maratus constellatus. "The patterns on the abdomen to me just look so much like Starry Night by van Gogh," he marveled, "hence the name constellatus which means 'starry' in Latin." Shubert's haul increases the total number of peacock spider species to 85 and the researcher suspects that there are many more breathtaking versions of the creatures waiting to be found.

(Everyone, except LoonyLady) Go to this video to see these amazing tiny spiders!

I don't think they're in The Monster Book of Monsters. Is there a Mini Book of Monsters, or a book of Mini Monsters?
