geothermal will heat one's home, but I don't think it does "outdoors" yet.
My brother and a couple of his neighbors are 'green' per say ... my brother runs on solar and I believe one of his neighbors runs geothermal.

ps ... you would love it up in mid to northern Saskatchewan. Lots of snow; possibly only (max) 3-4 months no snow. Lots of wildlife, fishing, trees .. etc

hmm - maybe some type of laser heater that will melt the snow in the yard in one sweep.
