How did Barty Crouch Jr. escape from Azkaban (and doesn't that qualify him as the first ever escapee rather than Sirius)?

What escape? Barty Sr. pulled some strings and had him placed on parole.
So since he was officially released, he doesn't qualify as an escapee.
