I think she already said some of the things and I´ve read so many theories about how Snape acted on guilt or love that is a good thing to read what the author thinks about the character she created.

She added this tweet some hours ago

J.K. Rowling added: Harry chose to perpetuate the names of the two who had nobody in their families to do so.

@Hogwartslifee
"he died to save the wizarding world" WHAT ABOUT REMUS, BLACK, DUMBLEDORE, TONKS, FRED, MRS WEASLEY RON HERMIONE????

J.K. Rowling explains, repeatedly, why Harry Potter named his son after Snape

Harry's decision to name his second son after Snape was not a simple one.

LONDON — It's a question some Harry Potter fans have pondered over ever since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows apparated its way onto our book shelves in 2007: Why, exactly, did Harry decide to name his second son after a man he spent most of his childhood despising?

In the final book's epilogue, when Harry is saying goodbye to Albus Severus Potter at Platform 9 3/4, he tells his son he was named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. "One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew," he says.

It seems not everyone was happy with that explanation, though.
The discussion started on Friday morning, when Rowling responded to this question from a fan.

@jk_rowling Why did you pick Snape to name Harry's kid after? I'm genuinely curious as he was nothing but abusive towards everyone.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
Snape died for Harry out of love for Lily. Harry paid him tribute in forgiveness and gratitude. https://twitter.com/frazzyjazzy7/status ... 0215898112

It wasn't long before Snape was trending on Twitter, and Rowling's feed was crammed with questions.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
I've got to say this: you lot have been arguing about Snape for years. My timeline just exploded with love & fury yet again. Never change x

She wasn't taking any nonsense, either.

@jk_rowling Kind of strange you'd say 'in forgiveness', I mean Snape held no malice against Harry (which Harry came to knew, eventually).
2:22 AM - 27 Nov 2015

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
That's not true, I'm afraid. Snape projected his hatred and jealousy of James onto Harry. https://twitter.com/captplanet_/status/ ... 3111577601
2:24 AM - 27 Nov 2015

Rowling then launched into a more detailed explanation about Harry's decision.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
There's a whole essay in why Harry gave his son Snape's name, but the decision goes to the heart of who Harry was, post-war.
2:33 AM - 27 Nov 2015

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
This morning I've been thinking a lot about the appeal of simple dichotomies in our messy world, then you raise Snape! Highly appropriate.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
Snape is all grey. You can't make him a saint: he was vindictive & bullying. You can't make him a devil: he died to save the wizarding world
2:43 AM - 27 Nov 2015

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
In honouring Snape, Harry hoped in his heart that he too would be forgiven. The deaths at the Battle of Hogwarts would haunt Harry forever.
2:54 AM - 27 Nov 2015

Rowling, like many of her readers, clearly still thinks about her characters quite a bit.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
No, not a rant; I'm thoughtful, not upset! Snape deserves both admiration and disapprobation, like most of us. https://twitter.com/zeinabazzi05/status ... 8019652609
3:05 AM - 27 Nov 2015

Rowling returned later and jumped back in to the ongoing debate to make it clear exactly what Snape died for.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
(Just come back to Twitter to find the great Snape debate still raging)
9:29 AM - 27 Nov 2015

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
Snape didn't die for 'ideals'. He died in an attempt to expiate his own guilt. He could have broken cover at any time to save himself 1/2
9:31 AM - 27 Nov 2015

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
but he chose not to tell Voldemort that the latter was making a fatal error in targeting Harry. Snape's silence ensured Harry's victory. 2/2
9:32 AM - 27 Nov 2015

Oh, Snape. He may have died over 17 years ago, but his memory lives on.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
See what you started, @FrazzyJazzy7? I need to get back to work. Have a good day, Snape-lovers, haters and in-betweeners all xxxx
3:13 AM - 27 Nov 2015

There's little chance Rowling will have settled the debate, but hopefully she has made it a little more polite.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
Please could we all keep our discussion about this fictional character civil? There's enough rage on Twitter without Snape-related hate.
10:02 AM - 27 Nov 2015

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
I love Twitter questions! But I don't like a character I love being used as a pretext to abuse other readers. https://twitter.com/Subhash_ati9/status ... 4190582785
10:12 AM - 27 Nov 2015

And shared one final thought with the Snape haters of Twitter.

J.K. Rowling ✔ @jk_rowling
He stood to gain nothing personally but the triumph of the cause Lily had believed in. He was trying to do right. https://twitter.com/Amortentia_Rose/sta ... 0180688896

Why no, why would I be paranoid about JKR erasing things I might want to read sometime?

Interesting tweets.

My theory/explantaion ... but just mine, it was all about revenge upon Lily's killer. He choose to be the person that Dumbledore asked him to be so that Lily's death could be revenged. He was a nasty evil git - he did not do it for Harry or for hatred of James or because he saw the errors of his ways and became a nice person - he did it because he was the only person who could assist Harry or create the scenario with Dumbledore's help/foresight, so that Lord V could be destroyed. Snape did not change his "Slytherin spots" so to speak, but he did realize that the only person that Lord V really cared about was Lord V - and Lord V killed the only person Snape loved. Snape, like Lord V, was not a kind and thoughtful person; but he did at least have a tiny smidgeon of his heart that was good (good enough to love; good enough to follow through with Dumbledore's plan).

anyway ... that's how I see it

How come she didn't let us answer the question? Howler's theory is so much more real/better than hers. Her's makes Harry disconnected from Snape and DD, objectifying them with pity, which is a dumb reason to name your kid after them. How many people named their kids "Hitler" because there'd be no one to sympathize with the loss. What a stupid reason!

I completely agree!!! :bow-yellow: Snape's death only served to improve society.

Evil is perfectly capable of performing heroic acts. But they , in no way diminish evil.
