Winds picked up today, so the heat wasn't too bad.
As long as one wasn't in the sun.

But very green, lush, and pretty!

What does "spotter activation may be needed" mean?

Not to be alarmed. It's only a heads-up that conditions today will favor the development of such storms.

Spotters are people like me who have been trained by the National Weather Service to be their eyes & ears in the field. The weather serve doesn't actually deploy us. I get deployed as a member of the FD, or by the county EMA. (Emergency Management Agency)
When activated, we give observations of current conditions to confirm or explain the readings they are getting on their radars and sensors.
We also give storm reports, such as wind damage, hail size, flooding, etc.
The downside is they have a tendency to call you in the middle of the night when their radars light up, for you to look out the window and tell them what's going on.
Of course they are also nice enough to give you the unlisted phone number, that they will actually answer. :handgestures-thumbupright:
The truly freighting thing is, they trust us enough to issue warnings on our reports. :o
However, the normal protocol is for us to report to our home agency, for them to forward information.

PLEASE don't confuse us with storm chasers! :angry-cussing:

Severe Thunderstorm Watch
for southern Saskatchewan
issued by Environment Canada
at 3:26 p.M. CST Saturday 11 June 2016.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Severe Thunderstorm Watch for:
=new= Assiniboia - Gravelbourg - Coronach
=new= Swift Current - Herbert - Cabri - Kyle - Lucky Lake
=new= Shaunavon - Maple Creek - Val Marie - Cypress Hills.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
==Discussion==

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe
thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts,
large hail and heavy rain.

A few thunderstorms have developed in the Swift Current area. These
thunderstorms will move slowly northeastward and may become severe
briefly. Later this evening, thunderstorms will develop in Montana
and cross into southern sk. These thunderstorms will likely become
severe as they continue to intensify through the evening hours.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts
can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off
trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with
any thunderstorm that develops. Be prepared for severe weather. Take
cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning
kills and injures canadians every year. Remember, when thunder
roars, go indoors(exclamation mark) please continue to monitor
alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe
weather, send an email to storm(at)ec.Gc.CA or tweet reports to
(hash)skstorm.

a huge 'purple' cell missed us "by that much" LOL - which is to say, by inches on a map. The edge of the nasty cell was about 5 miles away. Those (few) people I know on farms about 20 miles out sure got hit. Not sure of the damage yet - will likely find out on Monday when I speak to one of the ladies at work. I think the city (Swift Current) got hit hard too)
