An Animagus is an animal capable of doing complex magic, without wand or human/goblin/etc. intervention. One of the examples given in the story is Crookshanks, who can speak with other animals (and Sirius in his animal form), understand written words, and stop the Whomping Willow from being so destructive. He can undoubtedly do more, but we weren't given more specifics.

White men can't jump & wizards can't dance. Only those with born gifted with the magical talent are proficient; the rest must take lessons or 'fake it'.

He found it very confusing to try to keep that many people's names straight, plus it was dusty and he kept sneezing and losing his place on it.

Some wizard artists use Dragon's Blood to tint their paint; it has a very acidic pH so is a good solvent to remove oily stains; and it makes a fine glue for holding difficult Spell and Potion instructions from moving around while you try to read them.
