And all the pets, pictures that can't be replaced, no clean water or food, no electricity, no warm snug safe bed... kind of focuses how insignificant we are, and how everything can change in a moment.

There are some amateur meteorologists on You Tube that I listen to at times. A couple of them were pointing to that front days ahead and giving "hair on fire" possibilities. They turned out to be right. * shakes head * They're talking about very similar storm patterns coming up later this week, with cold and precipitation in those same areas.

True. That was on our local news, too. Just what they don't need right now. It's snowing here at the moment. Not sure how much yet; looks to be at least 3 inches; think it's closer to 4. Then it's supposed to be cold all week but the snow should stick around for a white Christmas. I can live with that!

Holy Hannah! Wednesday we had snow, ice, freezing rain, rain, back to freezing rain then snow...what a damned mess! Still haven't gotten that crap of the top of my car yet. Barely got it off the windshield and windows...my back, shoulder, and Carpal Tunnel let me know they weren't happy.

And it's been cold here, too. Mother Nature is having way too much fun with the damned air conditioning!

Holy crap that white stuff really dumped on us on the 26th. And naturally, the town (in all their wisdom) blocked half my driveway with super high piles of the crap. Emailed them to complain ... they keep doing this year after year. Why on earth would any sane person only push the ridges from half the driveway? Why??

anyways ... soooo much fun shoveling snow in -45 temps. Can't find the words (yes, sarcasm)

OMG ... the fires caused by the high winds blowing over the power lines near Denver. How devastating!!!
Nearly 600 homes destroyed; a shopping mall and a hotel as well.

You are far enough away from the fires, right Figgy???

Ditto Howler on the fires, Figgy. Been thinking about you, watching all the devastation on the news. OMG! Saying they're awful is such an understatement.

We've had sun and little snow off and on; nothing major. Temps have been upper 30s, low 40s in some spots but we have cold weather coming for a couple of days then back to seasonal. Go figure. We haven't had the snowfall like we're used to getting so when we finally do, have a feeling we'll be buried...1963 all over again.

In the '80s I lived in one of the areas that burned. (But I moved away when they started building all the stuff that burned. It used to be nice rolling hills pastures before they turned it into suburbs of Boulder.)
There are all sorts of scary stories - one guy and his wife went out for lunch and never saw their house again. There are some stories of people whos cars wouldn't start but managed to hitch a ride somehow, and one guy loaded his car then couldn't get the garage door to open so had to leave it all.

The last total I heard was 991 houses burned to just charred basements, and another couple hundred damaged, plus the businesses that burned.

It was the wind. Even though I'm west and south of there, surrounded by high mountains, all morning it was barreling through here with 50-to-70 mph or higher gusts. Once it got past the foothills there was nothing to slow it down. They said there were 100 mph winds in the places that were totally lost. The sheriff there said it was so out of control there was no way to even make a dent in it. He said he could see big black poofs of smoke go up as each house caught, said it was rythmic, poof, poof, poof. I haven't heard how many Fire Departments went to help, but it was traveling so fast that by the time anyone could get there it was already too late.

I just keep thinking about all the family heirlooms and pictures that are gone. And there had to be pets at home whose owners were at work or wherever and couldn't get back to rescue them... aquariums... hamsters... birds...

The next day we got 10" of snow.

This whole area is tinder dry.

yikes ... how devastating!
and here we are ... ungodly low temps and white crap falling nearly every day. And so much fun when the wind blows (and it nearly always blows in this part of the world).

Temps are supposed to warm up next week. Can't wait!
Is it spring yet??????????
I don't mind winter, I just really, really dislike snow.
Why the hell can't it rain in the summer rather than snow in the winter???

today is national whiners day, right? (oops ... guess I am too late, that day was Dec 26)

wow!!! How totally tragic and utterly devastating. My heart and prayers goes out to them. Can't imagine it, never having been through anything like that.

Wound up getting about 4" of snow; don't know what the official total is. Wonderful mound of it at the end of my driveway; thank goodness I don't have to shovel that crap. Washington County got hammered - 13+ inches of snow! Haven't gotten nearly that much in my neck of the woods. Still waiting for that major storm turning into a blizzard to hit us. Beginning to wonder if we're going to get one this year or not.

Been cold but not too bad, even with the wind. Nothing like what Howler has been dealing with. BUT we're getting the arctic cold this week. Temps below zero at night, single digits during the day. Supposed to start tonight through early tomorrow, lasting through sometime Wednesday then it warms up a bit. Not much as far as major storms; just the usual little winter weather here, winter weather there, that's about it.
