Well, it's been freezing, freezing, freezing! Arctic blast...high temp for the day in the single digits...below zero at night...30+ mph winds...wind chills at least 25 below! It's @#$%& freezing cold!!!! And not much snow in sight. Supposed to get about 2 - 4 inches tomorrow that'll probably get mixed when it turns over to rain. aka...one hell of a slushy mess. Weird winter so far. oh boy.

Still freezing BUT now a change in the weather for tomorrow...blizzard warning! Expecting 12+ inches of snow, winds blowing like hell. Going to enjoy watching the flakes fly from my couch with a cup of coffee and dark chocolate M&Ms!

Including the cities of Lincoln, Howland, Springfield, Bangor, Brewer, Orono, Old Town, Amherst, Aurora, Dedham, Eastbrook, Great Pond, Calais, Grand Lake Stream, Wesley, Princeton, Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Bucksport, Orland, Castine, Eastport, Perry, Machias, Cherryfield, Danforth, Vanceboro, and Topsfield
905 PM EST Fri Jan 28 2022

...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 AM SATURDAY TO 7 AM EST SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Blizzard conditions expected with major blowing and drifting of snow and white-out conditions. Total snow accumulations of 14 to 20 inches expected. Winds gusting as high as 45 to 55 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of Coastal DownEast, Far Eastern, Interior DownEast and Penobscot Valley Maine.

* WHEN...From 7 AM Saturday to 7 AM EST Sunday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be extremely dangerous. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility and cause localized hazardous travel. Strong winds could cause damage to trees and powerlines. The cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

The latest road conditions for Maine can be obtained by going to newengland511.org.

I hear ya, Howler. Haven't had a blizzard every week but we've gotten at least 2 feet of snow in two weeks! I'm already tired of digging out my car. Did quite well through the blizzard. Had plenty of supplies, just in case, and didn't lose power. Poor plow guy was around a lot...he was quite busy and I'm guessing pretty tired by the end of the day. Got a bit of "heat" wave last week and a ton of rain. Melted most of the ice in my driveway...except, of course, the path to my car. lol. At least I'm no longer sliding out of my driveway. That's always a plus.

Had a bit of snow yesterday; cleaned off my car this morning for the exercise and no, I didn't have to dig it out! lol. But there were a lot of accidents yesterday statewide. Folks just wont slow down. They forget having AWD or 4-wheel drive doesn't mean the snow will move for you and you won't slide off the road. sheesh! On the news last night, the state troopers handed one driver a lovely $800 fine...didn't slow down passing an 11-car accident due to the weather. So much for that driver's tax return!

As of 9-ish tonight its supposed to snow off-and-on until sometime Thursday and not get above teens F (-12 or -13C) all that time. I bet you can just hear the enthusiasm in my words... oh joy!

this is the first week without a storm ... wow!

but last weekend, that one kind of set a new record for "crappy weather"
Sat Feb 19th the temps warmed up to +6C (43F).
By 6 PM it started raining.
By midnight it was -10C (14F) and it started snowing
By 3 AM it was -20C (-4F)
By 6 AM it was -25C (-13F)
Snow on top of glazed ice ... fun roads for sure.
The roads were finally semi-safe to drive on by Tues

this week we are to get 3 or 4 days of snowfall ... oh joy (I feel your pain for this as well Figgy)

Yup. The weather in our individual neck of the woods is driving us nuts! oy! And in Maine...Mother Nature keeps turning the air conditioning back on! humpf...

We had a 65 degree day last week, melted most of the ice in my driveway! Yea! Then it snowed Friday...7 inches of fluff, which was the only good thing. Moved it off my car without any issues but still had to shovel around my car to get the snow off my car. Yippee. Plow guy came around abour 8:30 Saturday morning. Worked for me! lol

And another note about yesterday morning...14 below! brrrrrrrrrrrrr! It was 9 above this morning and cloudy. Sun peaks out every once in a while but not much so far. This week...freezing mornings (single digits) and only nuisance snow/snow showers. Can live with that...no ice, no sleet, no freezing rain.

We just had two really nice days (but are supposed to have winter again this weekend).

We need a bunch more snow though. The drought's left such a deficit that even though the current official count is good, we could use several years of above average inches of snow.

A couple of counties here in Maine could definitely use more snow, same problem...drought deficit. A lot of counties, including Penobscot County where I live, are above the average snow fall but Cumberland County, in Southern Maine, is below average.

The other problem is so many people here have wells so if there's not enough snow and rain, their wells run low or dry despite having water added. Some years are worse than others; have a feeling this is going to be a tough year for wells. Just wish the folks that really need snow get it instead of those of us who will get it and don't need more.

Lately we've been having one good day followed by 2 days of some kind of weather. Yippee. Yahoo. ugh! This week is no different. Crappy weather today - snow, freezing drizzle, rain - then more of the same tomorrow. So ready for this crap to be over with!

We had those cold days then a couple warm summery ones, now are back to minus single digits over night and may break freezing in the daytime. Sunday through Tuesday are supposed to be nice, then a couple snowy days, then sunny above freezings. I'm getting whiplash.

Friday all day I helped a friend scrub down a house her adult son was moving out of, then hit the grocery stores in town since I was already there. I got home about 10:30 or 11 to bizarre wind gusts. I was trying to bring in stuff from the car, in 4 degrees F, with these gusts so strong that there were several times I was being slid along on the icy walkway, with my hands full, and couldn't do a thing about it. Luckily it didn't knock me over, but it was a bit surreal.
