The Harry Potter Reboot Keeps Getting WORSE...

The Harry Potter HBO trailer just dropped and I have a lot to say...

From the controversial casting of Snape, to the $100 million per episode budget, to why I think this reboot is going to do more harm than good to one of the most beloved franchises of all time. we are getting into all of it!!

I also compare the reboot to the original Harry Potter films and explain why older movies felt so different visually, and why so many modern shows now look flat, grey, and overly processed. This isn’t just a Harry Potter problem, it’s happening across Hollywood...

If you love movies, acting, or complaining about the state of Hollywood, this one’s for you!

That clip too me a very long time to finish watching … my fault really – I feel rather compelled to respond to her (at times) whiny, insufferable complaining – not to mention a few real-life distractions.

Like I said earlier, everyone is allowed to their own opinions

My takes/opinions:
It just isn’t going to work to constantly compare the movie actors to the TV actors. Setting yourself up for disappointment. They are meant to be reasonably accurate to the book characters.

Did this person actually read the books? Or did she just skip over the chapters that described the treatment suffered by Harry due to the Dursleys’ abuse. Harry’s hair cut clearly demonstrates the cruelty he suffered by/from the Dursleys. If people are offended by this, maybe they should ensure they do not treat their children in a cruel manner.

Did the books state the Dursleys’ ‘skin’ flaws?

It is highly possible that the Hagrid voice is meant to reflect the gentleness of the half-giant.

Even a stressed-out mother of seven will take the time to look ‘public nice’; especially since all her children are older, as well as attempting to fit into a "muggle" public location. The author doesn't appear to be old enough to judge what an “eight-hour” a night sleep person looks like.

I agree with the choice of color grading filter used to darken the scenes; a bit too blue/grey, a bit to dark in my opinion

LOL – Draco’s hair style the “broccoli special” … LOL I sort of like the new hair look on Draco; it fits into the 90’s theme. Not to mention it is nearly identical to Ron’s hair style; just a different color.

Inaccurate – not all casting choices are a faithful adaptation of the books - Harry does not have green eyes; Vernon is not a big beefy man; Hermione does not have ‘white’ skin; and more. LOL – and yes, even good-looking people lurk around dungeons. Rickman always made his character roles unique. It should not be expected for a “new Snape” to copy his idioms. As long as Paapa keeps his character true to the ‘book Snape’ it should work.

Cruelty, unpopularity, and intelligence are not “race” oriented/dictated. And yes, by casting Paapa Essiedu as Snape, it subjects him to the same ridicule and cruelty that the book Snape experienced. The general public are clearly demonstrating how easily it can be for cruelty & abuse (by both verbal and physical means) to be directed towards a person … any person, no matter the race/religion/et al. The general public is already demonstrating their hatred of a character identical to what the book character experienced.

So, was it really a bad casting choice? I am beginning to (possibly) understand why they made this decision. The publicity, well that is just a bonus.

I don’t remember Snape being described as ugly by JKR. Sallow skinned, greasy hair, unpopular, awkward, abused – yes, but ugly? JKR tended to describe physical characteristics of the characters, but did not say a character was pretty or ugly. Well, she might has wrote ‘pretty’ while describing on of the female characters (don’t remember which one).

Yes – it is an individual choice to support this or not. HBO is correct with their statement; it is JKR’s story. Her political views are separate from the story book series.

LOL – how did the merchandizing change over the decades of Star Trek versions? Or any other long, repeated series? Not to mention TV to movies adaptations; and movie to TV adaptations? My opinion – let the merchandisers decide (as they always have; as they always will). The only option ever provided to anyone is if they want to buy it or not.

It’s HBO’s money … they are the only ones who decide how to spend it. Her complaint is equivalent to one’s neighbor trying to tell me how to spend my money or justify my purchases.
