Is Howlerville in the path of this weather event?

The heat & humidity return for tomorrow.

You can get your mouth washed out with soap for saying things like that!

(And - ! - worse, the smell has changed. Bummer! I like Winter, hate Fall....)

I too like Fall.
I have noticed the squirrels that I feed, have started to get a bit more focused of burying the nuts.

Would you care to share the reason(s) you hate Fall so much, Figgy?

First - I hated public school, so it was Pavlovian conditioning that Fall still means suffering.
1b - I used to get motion sickness really easily and would barf on the bus on good days, most days would just end up feeling lousy for hours and hours, then it would be time to get back on the bus and refresh the whole routine.
1c - I'm also sensitive to smells, so the days I managed not to feel awful from movement I'd be green around the gills from some perfume or chemical residue.

Second - But maybe more important - Everything I loved (nice weather, growing plants, balmy breezes and joyful exploring, time with my best buddies down in the barn, berries and garden harvesting, etc.) was dying or being taken away.

Third - I'm SO not a morning person... to the point of it affecting my health. I can force myself to be vertical and around other humans before noon, but it genuinely stresses my body, and EVERY year that I was in Public School I would be sweating the attendance requirements having missed close to the limit of days from strept throat and whatever else was floating around the cesspool of student illnesses. I'd have doctors excuses/corroboration but that didn't help with me fairly continuously feeling like crap and the bureaucrats freaking out about their rules and regs .

Fourth - It pissed off many of the teachers that my IQ was high enough that it didn't really matter if I was in their class or not, i still got the material in spades. It pissed me off that I had to be tortured like that and waste a whole day when I could learn twice as much in half the time when not sentenced to 'putting in time' at the school.

Fifth (or 2b) - Everything turns brown and dreary. It gets cold, the joy goes away - the sunlight especially. (I'd vote for a possibility of Seasonal Affective Disorder, but no one heard of anything like that back then.)

Fall sucks, still.

.

All-right then. Pretty sure I'm sorry I asked. :shifty:
Didn't mean to dredge up any painful childhood memories.

I still enjoy the season. The smell of burning leaves, being able to see your breath for the first time in months. Going out to pick apples, Etc.
Plus, I may be the only person in existence that likes the shorter days. Not a big sun person. Just love those cold days that have the low dull gray sky.

not so sure about dull gray skies, but love the first frost (yup, one of those weirdos that loves the first crisp air day) and love the effect it has on the land (great for pictures sometimes). Love watching the mist come off lakes and ponds. The smell of apples with cinnamon (baking), And (sorry figgy) I loved school starting in the fall (loved learning, yes, but Anything ... absolutely Anything was better than being at home). Autumn means I can almost stop wearing sunscreen, and no longer get hives from the brutal summer sun - what a relief!

I have, however, resisted the urge to buy crayons in Sept for quite some time now ... lol. (I'm quite proud of me)

My daughter was a night owl too ... it took every trick in the book to try to get her to school on time ... many days she did not make it. School is painful for non-morning people.
