I thought that Harry’s vault earned interest … hmmm
OMG - This was a difficult clip to watch.
I understand JKR’s wanting to emulate today’s society & levels. It is what us muggles can clearly relate to.
Do you think, just maybe, some people are taking the HP story far too seriously? Far too much scrutiny? Far too much archeological deep diving?
One statement made by the author was truly chuckle worthy though. He compares the educational system between Hogwarts and our system, stating that the witches and wizards are not taught math, economics, business skills, or financial literacy. LOL … well, our schools teach math, but never have I heard of an elementary or high school teach financial literacy. Our teens leave high school without any guidance on how to budget, and so forth. These skills are taught at home (and only if the parent knows how to). Maybe high schools have changed, but in my time, nothing towards “real life management” was taught in schools. We learned the basics – reading, writing and arithmetic. Secondary schools (college or university) were often far from reach for the average person. And still are.
Perhaps, just perhaps, in my era, it was designed that way for the sole purpose of the ‘rich’ being able to employ ‘poor’ people (to work in their factories, etc); one simply had to have workers who could read and/or understand directions. Maybe JKR’s story emulates this … maybe the author of this video has it wrong. Why would the 'rich' want the 'poor' to learn about money management? Sort of defeats the purpose doesn't it? They certainly don't want 'poor' people becoming 'rich'. Our system is specifically designed by the rich to keep people in their prospective social classes. Bravo to the few who surpass their social standings set by our society.
He does get one thing right though … the values the Weasley’s chose (over material goods) were excellent ones. And that makes them far richer than most. Bravo!
I love the stories. It was JKR’s wish to write a book that would be … just as she had as a child … books that were worn from over reading, and pages earmarked over and over. She did just that. And so much more. Far more than even she imagined.
Why scrutinize the world she created?
Why not just enjoy the read.
It is a fiction story (series) in a magical world.
It is fiction – it is fantasy.
It is about a boy; a magical boy; his hardships and how he survives.
Stop the “archeological deep diving” into economical entrepreneurship for it to make sense.
Why would anyone want to do this?
Does their need for deep exploration give them reasons to justify reading it? or justify criticizing it? No idea – and quite honestly, who cares?
Was the Star Trek fiction ripped apart to find out exactly how their engines worked? Or how they got oxygen? (they were in space; there is no oxygen there) Yup, I know who the characters are, and watched a lot of the shows, but I don’t think I ever questioned it – it was a fantasy fiction – it doesn’t matter. It was just a story. And if it was "archeological deep dived", then I am happy to say I am blissful not knowing about it.
