If I did @#$%^&* Cuaron would have been fired before he had a chance to ruin PoA.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The man DESTROYED PoA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was such a let down after the first two movies. I watched it expecting the same type of quality .... boy was I wrong. I still remember sitting in the theater stuttering words like "but where" "but they missed" "what happened to" "but ... "but .." "but..."

ok - mini rant over.

Oh please continue the ranting!

I found the film not worth the effort it takes to rant.

it was nasty ... and to add insult to injury, the way Hermione's character was portrayed was dreadful!

I actually think the Hermione character was even more misdirected in the fourth movie.

well, at least in the 4th, no dragons were harmed during the making of the movie.

There were eight or so of us, all dressed Potter-y, playing and joking with any/everyone in the theatre. Everyone there was SO into it and looking forward to the third movie (despite much of the leaked and teased things that had been dangled before our desirous eyes to entice us into spending money on the movie). It was a jovial atmosphere!

Then the lights went down.

When they came back up there was quiet, except for the muted sounds of shuffling feet as the crowd unenthusiastically left. The people I was with just sat there stunned, the college kids in the row in front of us (who'd been boisterous and silly before) were like they'd been heavily sedated. After quite a while we started to discuss how disappointed we all were. It was like some older kid had said there was no Easter Bunny.

How could Cuaron claim to be a master film maker and not have A - read the book(s), B - apparently not seen any Lon Chaney Jr wolfman movies (or any other werewolf ones it seems), C - not have studied the subject matter, D - insulted us with chupacabra-Lupin, E - had so many places where there were continuity flaws, F - added worthless things while leaving out important things, G - treated the audience like we were stupid and he could throw any crap at us and we'd lap it up... Plus, it turned out that we were now stuck with all his miscasting.

How could Cuaron have SOOOO screwed it up? It had to be pure malice.

That was the funky part about Saturday. It was nice to watch them all in order, but 3 just reminded me of all the crummy parts of Cuaron ruining what had been at that point my favourite HP book.

[The other problem that was irksome Saturday (well ever since they did it, but came back up again on Saturday) - Why in the H#%% did they burn The Burrow in HBP? Especially when it wasn't in the book, and in the very next movie they were back at The Burrow! And if they're such terrific wizards, why didn't they stop it instead of just standing there looking emo? - But! At least it wasn't as screwed up as Cuaron would have done.]

I was at the midnight opening of PoA* and had a somewhat similar experience. From the very beginning, there was stunned silence. Then many looks of confusion, then of anger.
If Alfonso had been there, he would have been lynched.
No, I wasn't in costume, though I now expect you to post pictures of you and your friends in your Potter attire.

*Still my favorite book, also.
