True. Now that I think about it, I doubt that she could sue over just words (that are not quotes). There are no copyrighted photos etc either.

Yeah, there's a line, fine line, between "public domain" and "copyrightable intellectual property". Technically the ideas on those cups and shirts were created by someone else, so belong to that person.

:twocents-mytwocents: She was good about letting us use her stuff until the big business guys got involved. I really think they were the ones who lead JKR astray. I remember hearing an interview back around GoF time where you could tell her heart wasn't in having to go along with what they were making her say. I also think the porn trend in fan-fic bothered her.

I also have a problem with turning a wonderfully magical story into porn ... it is not the world JKR created; it is not what the story is about.
I still have a problem with what she did with Steve Vander Ark. (but I don't want to rehash that subject again)
