Are you home safe & sound, Figgy?

And why is a cat person, such as yourself... dog-sitting?

I lucked out. There was a lull just exactly as I needed to start driving, and lasted for about two-thirds of the trip. The last half hour was fairly thick snow, but a lot less traffic closer to home than in Da Big City. I've been home about 3 hours and there are a couple inches accumulated on my car already. I think the weather forecasters were adamant enough that people are being a little sensible and not going anywhere unless its actually important.

'Home safe and sound, thanks for your concern. Except for shoveling and dog-going-out-to-potty, I plan on hiding out until it turns nice again! :occasion-snowman:

About 1:23am the transformer on the pole 20 yards away from my house (or maybe it was just the wires hitting each other) grounded out and shorted from the thick wet snow. There were a couple good flashes and it made some loud scary noises before the electric went out for a few minutes from it. Then I was spooked about going out to shovel because I wasn't sure if the snow might still be conducting.

I went out around 2am and shoveled (about ten inches deep) then at 8:30am it was as though it hadn't been done, so shoveled again. During the second one the transformer/wires did it again. Its even more exciting when you're outside. By 2pm about a third of it had melted away, the trees were raining, running like a creek in the street. And now its snowing again.

I've been paying attention to all that mess hitting your neck of the woods, Figgy. Glad you're home, safe and sound, despite the transformers having some serious issues. Did you happen to get any thunder snow? We get it here sometimes during snow storms...can jump the crap out of you when you don't expect it!

So far, just rain forecast for my neck of the woods tho we've been known to get the crappy white stuff thru May. Temps the past few days have been pretty good and lots of sunshine. Loving it! Waiting for it to warm up enough to open my windows for a while. Just love fresh air!

We had 70s Tuesday and Wednesday, then knee deep super-soggy snow Thursday that melted down as per previous post. It was down to about 8-10" deep, with completely gone-on-road by this afternoon.

Its a bit as though someone is putting on a play and just drags the next backdrop across.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The poor dog had to potty, went bounding out and sunk in up to her belly. She couldn't reach anything solid, couldn't get her legs free, completely freaked out, floundered around in a panic until she was back to a spot where at least a couple of her feet got traction - and was so traumatized she wouldn't go into the yard again, which means, basically she didn't go potty for a whole day.
Poor thing! Who knew going potty could cause so much trauma! At least it is all melted now. Hope the electrical wires are back in good order too!
