The satellites are aimed differently. Quite a few years ago I wanted to align with one so I could watch CBC but my provider (Direct) wouldn't allow it. Early on Dish provided the latitude numbers for all the satellites in a manual in the box with your equipment, but you had to be a bit better at it than I am to pull the signal.

Even if I had access to American TV, they are really cracking down on it. Even if it is legal, it will be deemed illegal shortly. makes sense, right... *shakes head*

the new laws are coming into effect shortly ... you can pay for US TV channels, but they will not get broadcasted to you ... (eg Netflix, etc)
