Hope your reprieve gives you an extra day just to thaw out, Howler. We had that kind of crap in December and parts of January. Anything we get now only lasts about a day, sometimes two. But still sucks. The only good thing about the wind...tends to dry out a lot of melting. Our school bus here on the Island has had it rough the past 2 times we had freezing rain the night before.
Normally, at 6:41 am, the bus goes to the end of my street (just past my house), pulls up then backs up then drives down the street. Well, she's wound up sliding. The first time a couple of weeks ago trying to back up, this morning trying to pull up. The maintenance guys (plow and treat the roads) had to sand the road for her until she had traction to complete her turn. The first time was definitely the scariest - she ever-so-slightly "kissed" the snow bank but was somehow able to drive backwards very slowly down the street and wait for the maintenance guys to treat the road for her. Don't know why the maintenance guys don't treat my road earlier...they show up around 7 am usually. Go figure.
