Well, I THINK it's winter...not much snow since the last storm (got about 7 - 8 inches), a little snow here and there...and rain! At least yesterday's rain didn't wash out what snow we have. Been in the 30s to low 40s lately BUT colder temps during the day and single digits at night are coming by midweek. At least if we do finally get a major snow storm or blizzard, I won't have to drive in it as I'm still working from home. In Maine...January thaw leads to February freeze. We'll see; been a very strange winter so far.

We're getting similar weather disparity. Usually mid-Jan is really cold with some snow, not lots because its usually too cold for the snow to do much. This year my yard only has old melted down snow in the shady spots with lots of dry brown grass visible. I like blue and white winters better than brown ones.

We do seem to keep getting in the middle between highs and lows, so gale force winds keep happening. We tend to get a lot of wind anyhow, but with the added speed from the two circulations it keeps getting into the Category 2 hurricane speeds. In the mountains its somewhat diverted because of the topography, but when it gets to the Plains it has nothing to slow it down.

And our drought is getting pretty serious. We have about half the snow/precipitation we should have at this point of the winter. Since last year was dry its making this doubly not good... there's a lot to make up.

I am also liking not having to go out in it, though.

Wow - what a storm we had on Wednesday - taken this long for the province to clean up afterwards! Hurricane winds (up to 160 k/h; rain; ice; blizzard. Over half our province lost power - over half of all the roads in the province were closed. The major highway (#1) was closed for approx 36 hrs. My house was without power for 12 hrs; some places in the province were without power for days. Yikes! Our local power company posted a picture of a christmas tree on top of the power lines (apparently the wind blew it there). So very glad that it is over!

Is it spring yet?

Sounds like the mess we're getting tomorrow night, all day Tuesday, 7 - 12 inches snow, may change over to sleet and rain. According to the National Weather Service:

1031 PM EST Sun Jan 31 2021

...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 12 inches. Highest amounts inland away from the immediate coast. Snow will likely mix with or change to sleet & rain at times especially along and near the coast. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of Coastal DownEast, Interior DownEast, and Penobscot Valley Maine.

* WHEN...From late Monday night through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could cause extensive damage to trees and power lines.

Yup...winter finally finding Maine as we haven't gotten the storms we normally get. Glad I don't have to shovel or drive in it as I'm working from home!

Got 7 - 8 inches of snow with the last storm; just really light stuff since. More snow coming tomorrow night and all day Tuesday (talking double digit totals) changing to freezing rain and/or ice with this one. Lovely. Then we get to go through it again Friday. Yippee. Temps have been very cold but not like what I've seen y'all getting. Been a very weird winter so far. Stay warm and stay safe.

Us, too! We're supposed to get above freezing on Saturday, and a couple days next week.
