I don't understand WHY she would want to leave Harry behind.

I do. She was being run into the ground by all us fans and the media all through the 2000s.

I was afraid at the end of DH she'd pull an Arthur Conan Doyle and kill both Harry and Voldie just so we'd leave her alone for a while. The story sure looked like that was the direction she was going - she was removing all Harry's connection to the magical world, more or less in the order he acquired them. She killed Hedwig, destroyed his wand (those two are reversed from actual obtaining, but both came to Harry so closely together that timing isn't as pivotal, they're kind of both at the same time sort of), killed his most powerful mentor, alienated with Ron, killed Dobby... she was methodically unwiunding his magical networkings.

Now she's had a break from all that and it could be starting to be OK for her again. (Or it could be that the reception for her first non-Harry book was so abysmal that she wants to go back to success. She knows we'll all jump at the chance for more Potter-verse.)

Not to mention she's getting way too good at evil (Umbridge and Skeeter)
More HP stories and we'll likely get drugs, rehab centres etc with our beloved characters.

So your saying that she would go in the direction that nearly ended her career?

I think maybe ... if that is the way her brain was veering towards, then that is the way her future HP characters would have gone. Yuck!
I am glad she stopped writing HP.

now, if after a long absence, she went back to her beloved characters and delved into that magical world she created and so desperately protected, then and only then would she (maybe) do a decent job of contributing to it.

I didn't get anything of note done this weekend because of Harry.... I think she should send money as a 'thank you'.

The good thing about Fantastic Beasts is that we do not have a book to compare the story/plot to, so Hollywood shouldn't screw it up too terribly bad.

You are indeed the eternal optimist, Howler.
We can only hope.

What's really sad is that Warner Brothers started out in the town closest to where I grew up. They were cool there/then. And now they are money-grubbing @##%$)^&.
