That's always good, Howler. Friday, we had rain but the temps were 32 degrees. Had to run an errand at lunchtime...roads were just wet EXCEPT the bridge on/off the island. When I got to it, looked a little icy...and it was. Slipped just a tad so slow down up the bridge, slow down going down the bridge. Friday afternoon and Friday night, there were a lot of accidents statewide due to black ice and crappy conditions. There was a bad one in Waterville; one person died and several people injured.

Another accident, a lady got on it her dash cam. A pickup truck in front of her pulled over to get off the road, she started to follow him. Cars traveling the other direction had already pulled over because of the weather and icy roads. Idiot driving an 18-wheeler going too fast, started sliding (nicked the lady's vehicle with the dash cam), jack-knifed, slammed into the cars on the other side of the road. Just missed the driver in the first vehicle, who managed to duck just in time.

You'd think they'd know better. No matter how big and how heavy the vehicle, black ice can get you. oy!

It can snow any month of the year here, but we usually have about five months of nice weather. Somehow, every year, people forget how to drive in winter conditions during those five short months. And then, just to make things interesting, we invite people from places like Florida and Texas (where they don't generally even have "all weather tires" on their vehicles, let alone good snow tires) to come play in the mountains.

I'm sure there is someone somewhere filming it all...

LOL - ain't that the truth Figgy!

I am already tired of S**W ... so much white crap has fallen this month. Many days working from home. While I don't mind that, I do mind the road conditions. This time, it was reverse... roads and highways were great but there were 3-4 ft drifts in my driveway (and decks, and yard). I shoveled, and shoveled and shoveled and still got stuck in my driveway. Thankfully the tow truck driver was within the area and was able to un-stuck me. I once again shoveled the space between the vehicle and the garage and then parked it inside (I have a 50' driveway). the wind kept blowing and eventually there was a 5' drift behind the garage door and the rest plugged up with 3 ft drifts. When the wind finally eased up, I hired someone to dig my front out with their skid steer. Wow ... what you can do with one of those machines in less than 30 minutes. I have no idea how I am going to get all that white stuff off my back deck (30' long) - going to have to find a solution soon though. I have never seen it this bad before. Usually I have to shovel a tunnel between the house and the garage door, but not this time. This time I had to open the back door and shovel every hour, just so that I wasn't completely trapped inside.

and it is only one month into winter ... *head bang*

We're just the opposite here. We've been getting the winds - either side of 50 mph - but rain, rain, and more rain! oy! We've had a few snow showers but the rain washes it away. Temps have been either side of 50 degrees during the day, either side of 30 at night. What worries me is when we finally get snow, have a feeling we're going to get hammered bit time. For now, wait and see what happens.

This week...pretty much like last week. Partly sunny, rain, temps either side of 50. Yah.

We've had perfect Christmas Market weather this year so far (about time). There were forty and seventy mph gusts the day before it started, so could have been interesting had that kept up, but instead was a bit above freezing with a nice dusting of snow (to make things look like a Christmas Card and clean and traditional).

This year is the 62nd one (should have been 63, but COVID).

What a beautiful place you live Figgy!
I can see you fitting in so wonderfully in a place that is chocked full of traditions/activities like this

today ... blustery with (again) more white crap

I was so disappointed that the weather was so crappy when the CP Holiday train passed through. We finally got a 'night' performance ... and to take photos of all the trains decorations/lights ... but our temps plummeted to -34C (-29F) - for only one day!!! so upset!!! No, neither me nor my camera was ready to stand outside for an hour in that weather.

The edge of that same front (or its brother) just started through here about an hour ago. Our high for Thursday/tomorrow is 5F/-15C. You really didn't need to share. I wouldn't have minded a bit.
Its supposed to be back up to milder temps by Saturday.

That storm came through here Friday. Winds in most places 60+ (70+ on the coast) and rain, rain, rain! Holy! Astronomical high tides in the morning so flooding in most coastal towns. Don't know how bad the damage is. I know one road the ocean managed to get a rock under it so the ocean water had a place no one wanted it to go. Took the road out. And the rain took 98 percent of the snow with it. Nice green Christmas this year.

Power has been a HUGE issue. So many lost power and still don't have power. Maybe Tuesday before they get it back. A lot of towns had just gotten the power turned back on from last week's snow storm. Then this one took it out again. I was lucky. My power stayed on, though it seemed like it was going to go out and had a lot of brown-outs. Muggle Son and Daughter Moo didn't lose theirs, either, but Muggle Son did lose his internet. I think because the area across the street from him lost power and the internet went with it.

Then the cold moved in. Low 20s during the day and either side of 10 at night if we're lucky. btw...wind chills were below zero; single digits today so far. brrrrrrrrrr is an understatement. Supposed to warm up to the 30s and maybe low 40s by the end of the week. Go figure!

dang ... you are okay now though, right Moo?

we got rain as well. It started last week and rained for an entire day.
Naturally it all FROZE.
For three-four days we were shrouded completely in ice. Roads closed (of course) for days!!!
thank goodness I took a few days off
when my sister finally managed to get to work, she picked up some bags of sand/salt which I spread all over the driveway
the driveway is still very much a huge skating rink, but at least we have a bit of traction to get to the street.
and my car has been acting up the last couple weeks, so I didn't even get the chance to drive around to get photos of all the ice... oh well ... I am sure it will happen again in my life time ... right

How the heck does in manage to rain in late December, when we can't even get a drop of moisture in July and August ... (are you listening Mother Nature???)

Did I mention it went from -50C to +3C within a couple days ... crazy!!
